Green Schools

Green-schools is an international environmental education programme, environmental management system and award scheme that promotes whole school action towards a sustainable environment. It is known internationally as eco-schools. Thanks to the hard work of teachers and the Green schools student committee, Scoil Ruáin has  been  awarded four Green Flags to date  and is currently working on the fifth flag for Biodiversity.

In the year 2023, we are thrilled to announce that Scoil Ruáin has been honored with the Green Flag, specifically under the theme of global citizenship: litter and waste. This achievement signifies a revisit to our initial focus on addressing litter and waste-related concerns while also raising global awareness among our students. The revisitation to this theme is aimed at ensuring the enduring impact of the changes implemented during our first Green Flag endeavor.

Under the expert guidance of Ms. Jordan, our Transition Year students have actively tackled litter issues within our school premises. Our entire school community continues to collaborate harmoniously, ensuring cleanliness and promoting recycling practices. Additionally, we’ve conducted a survey to gauge our students’ knowledge of global issues. The results of this survey were enlightening, motivating us to further enhance our students’ awareness throughout the year.

At Scoil Ruáin, we are committed to nurturing environmentally responsible global citizens, and the Green Flag awarded under the theme of global citizenship: litter and waste is a testament to our unwavering dedication to this cause.
