First Year Hurling Blitz      Day 1 2018

Game 1: Scoil Ruáin 6-10     Nenagh C.B.S. “B”    0-01

Game 2: Scoil Ruáin 3-09     Thurles C.B.S. “B”   1-01

Game 3: Scoil Ruáin 3-11     Cashel C.S. “B”         0-01

Scoil Ruain first years had an enjoyable and most successful first taste of hurling at post-primary level with victories over the “B” panels of Thurles C.B.S., Nenegh C.B.S. and Cashel C.S. in Dr. Morris Park on Tuesday, October 16th.

These wins ensure that the team qualifies for the Sciath Uí Chatháin championship on Thursday, October 18th.

In our first game we were in control against the breeze in the first half and retired at the interval 4-06 to 0-00 in front courtesy of goals from Alex Greene (2), Brandon Ryan-Webster and Eoin Treacy and points from Brandon (3), Sam Rowan (2) and Alex (1). We continued to dominate in the second half with goals from substitute, David Lawlor, and Brandon again with further points from Sam (3) and Brandon (1). Centre forward, Darragh Linnane, sustained an ankle injury in this game and was forced to miss the next game against Thurles C.B.S.

Seven players who did not feature in the first game’s starting line-out began the second game against Thurles C.B.S. “B”. Again we elected to play against the breeze in the first half but were 3-05 to 0-01 ahead at half time, Eoin Treacy, Sam Rowan (with a wonderful strike) and Brian Corcoran supplying the goals with points from Brandon, Alex and Sam (2). The influential Sam Rowan added three excellent points after half time with Brandon finishing the scoring with a nice point.

Our third game against Cashel C.S. “B” saw further changes and positional switches in an attempt to find the best blend for future outings. Fionn Fitzgerald was drafted to centre forward for this game and caught the eye with 1-06 from play, 1-03 coming in a five minute scoring burst in the first half. Brandon netted twice in this period and added a point in the second half with further points from Luke Ryan (2), Darragh Linnane and Sam Rowan.

This completed an excellent trio of games for the Southerners and augurs well for Thursday’s games.
