Tree planting Initiative at Scoil Ruáin

The story begins with a email from Crannach a Tipperary based non-profit non-political environmental group whose aim is to make things greener with trees.

Following on with consultation between interested parties we made request for 50 plus native hardwoods to be planted. In due course on Wednesday —- of February Richie and ::: landed with trees and the work of planting began. Backed up by teacher and enthusiastic students planting began in fun but workman like fashion. These trees will take up to 40 years to mature which nice coincides with Scoil Ruáins 40-year anniversary. In addition to this we have a strong green schools’ history 6 green flags. This like most green schools’ initiatives have been on hold due to covid it is great to be back doing activities in this area again. Scoil Ruain has a long history in practical subjects so how fitting will it be for students going forward to have a on site teaching resources which will aid lessons on benefits of trees to environment, structure of trees, biodiversity of trees and all the other scientific and aesthetically joys trees bring.

Students said they enjoyed the planting experience and were amazed by the skill and efficiency of Richie in the work carried out.
