Ava Heffernan, a Scoil Ruáin class of 2022 student, was invited to attend a Cultural Event to Reflect on the Centenary of the Irish Civil War on Saturday 17th September, organised by the Office of the Taoiseach in the National Concert Hall, Dublin. Ava’s invite came on the back of her recent major success in winning the ‘Decade of Centenaries All Island History Competition for Primary and Post-Primary Schools’. Ava’s exceptional history essay entitled ‘Violence and Sexual Violence against women during the Irish War of Independence & Civil War’ saw her become one of five post-primary winners from across Ireland. Ava met Mícheál Martin, Leo Varadkar and Michael D. Higgins at Saturday’s event and she will be honoured at a national awards ceremony in the coming weeks. Pictured is Ava at Saturday’s event. The Scoil Ruáin community are very proud of Ava and her huge success, well done!
